Ranji Trophy 2014 Group C: Services bowlers pull back Hyderabad on Day 3

Services bowlers struck back to check Hyderabad’s first innings lead to just 32 runs on Day 3 of the Group C Ranji Trophy cricket match at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Uppal, in Hyderabad on Tuesday.


Resuming on their overnight score of 210 for three in the four-day encounter, Hyderabad were bowled out 338 after losing seven wickets for just 117 runs.


Centurion Hanuma Vihari (119) added just five runs to his overnight score before being scalped by left-arm spinner Saurabh Kumar, who bagged four wickets in the innings.


The Hyderabad lower-order also resisted but new-ball bowler Roshan Raj and left-arm spinner Abhishek Sakuja bagging three wickets apiece, made sure the the hosts are not able to stretch their lead much.


Getting behind the trail, the visitors were 96 for four at stumps with Devender Lohchab (20 not out) and skipper Yashpal Singh (6 not out) battling on.


Leg-spinner Akash Bhandari (2-40) has been the destroyer-in-chief so far with pace spearhead Ravi Kiran and left-arm orthodox Mehdi Hasan bagging a wicket each.

Tripura take first innings lead against Goa


Tripura made 265 in response to Goa’s 251, giving then a crucial first innings lead on day three of the Ranji Trophy Group C match in Agartala on Tuesday.


Tripura, starting the day at 139 for five, went past Goa’s first innings score with the help of Manisankar Murasingh (63) and Abhijit Dey (49).


Goa in their second innings were 123 for five and led the hosts by 109 runs at stumps.


Goa 251 and 123/5 (Rahul Keni batting 20, Deepraj Gaonkar batting 25; Abhijit Sirkar 2/13) Tripura 265.


Kerala take first-innings lead over Jharkhand


Riding on half-centuries by lower order batsmen — Rohan Prem (51), Raiphi Gomez (76) and KS Monish (75) — Kerala took a slender 46-run first innings lead over Jharkhand on the penultimate day of their Ranji Trophy Group C cricket match in Dhanbad on Tuesday.


Replying to Jharkhand’s first innings total of 337 all out, Kerala scored 383 all out in their first essay.


At stumps on day three, Jharkhand were on 68 for one with Shabaz Nadeem unbeaten on 39 and giving him company at the other end was Virat Singh on six.


Resuming on 179 for five, overnight batsmen Prem, who started the day on 35 and Gomez, who resumed on 3, played with a lot of responsibility to make sure Kerala did not concede the first innings lead.


The duo shared a 68-run partnership for the sixth wicket to consolidate the innings before Prem got out. His knock came off 116 balls, studded with seven fours and a six.


Gomez then coupled with Monish to put on 77 runs together for the seventh wicket and take the team past 300-run mark.


Gomez took 173 deliveries for his 76 that included nine boundaries and a six, while Monish’s 75 was scored in 160 balls and with the help of seven fours and two sixes.


For Jharkhand, RP Singh (4/74) and Nadeem (4/83) were the pick of the bowlers.

Jharkhand: 337 & 68 for one in 23 overs (Shabaz Nadeem batting 39).


Kerala: 383 all out in 132.1 overs (Rohan Prem 51, Raiphi Gomez 76, KS Monish 75; RP Singh 4/74, Nadeem 4/83).
