Middle-order batsman Baba Indrajith hit a strokeful unbeaten century to help Tamil Nadu score 288 for six at stumps on the opening day of their Group B Ranji Trophy cricket match, in New Delhi on Friday.

Indrajith ended the day unbeaten on 121 that came off 178 deliveries and was studded with 21 boundaries after Tamil Nadu was invited to bat at the Karni Singh Stadium.

Besides Indrajith, skipper Abhinav Mukund made 49 off 117 balls opening the batting while Jagannathan Kaushik made 32.

Wicket-keeper Dinesh Karthik (27), Ramaswamy Prasanna (22) and Vijay Shankar (19) all got starts before perishing.

At the close of play, Malolan Rangarajan was giving Indrajith company at the crease on 8.

For Railways, pacer Anureet Singh (3/82) was the pick of the bowlers.

17 wickets fall on Day 1, Punjab-Andhra match evenly poised

As many as 17 wickets fell on the opening day as Punjab finished at 128 for seven after bowling out Andhra for a paltry 80 in a Ranji Trophy Group B match, in Patiala on Friday.

Andhra’s decision to bat first after winning the toss completely backfired as Punjab picked up wickets at regular intervals to bundle out the visitors under the 100-run mark in 45 overs.

Dwivedi, Asnora fifties help UP to 272/9 on Day 1

Contrasting fifties from skipper Eklavya Dwivedi and Himanshu Asnora helped Uttar Pradesh post 272 for nine against Gujarat on Day 1 of their Group B Ranji Trophy cricket match in Valsad on Friday.

Electing to bat, UP were hit by early strikes but Dwivedi (50) and Asnora’s (56 not out) 61-run fifth wicket stand saw the visitors recover well against a disciplined Gujarat bowling attack.

MP were 198/7 against Baroda after opting to bat

Madhya Pradesh were 198 for seven at stumps on the opening day of their Group B Ranji Trophy cricket match against Baroda, in Vadodara on Friday.

At stumps, wicket-keeper Ankit Dane was unbeaten on 30 and giving him company was Mihir Hirwani (4), son of former India leg-spinner Narendra Hirwani.
